CEEA 2009 National Energy Efficiency Report Card

Alberta has been making great strides towards increased energy efficiency in the past few years and our efforts have been recognized by the Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance (CEEA).

Every two years CEEA releases a report evaluating federal, provincial, and territorial governments on their energy efficiency performance. This year, Alberta was awarded a B+, a far cry from the D+ the province received in the previous three report cards.

According to CEEA, the higher score can be attributed to the implementation of the Province’s Climate Change Strategy, the creation of a Municipal Climate Change Action Plan, and leadership initiatives including a green building policy for new construction of government-owned facilities, and included sustainable procurement guidelines for energy and water use.

CEEA expects Alberta to quickly rise to the head of the class in the coming years if we can maintain our commitment to energy efficiency programs and focus more on higher standards and stricter enforcement.
