Assessing the Savings
Assessing the Savings
The amount you save through improved energy use as a small and medium enterprise (SME) in the industrial sectors depends on how many people in your organization get involved in making energy decisions.
From employees who decide when to turn on or off equipment and lights, to management staff making decisions about which technologies to invest in, everybody plays a part in saving energy.
If more people begin and continue to follow the recommended energy saving practices, the benefit will be much greater than if only a few follow these practices for a short time. Moreover, investing in an energy assessment is just that - an investment.
It costs money to get a proper energy assessment done and its value is only as good as the effort put into following its recommendations. An energy assessment will benefit your company most if you currently have some commitment to energy management and are both willing and seeking to do more to manage your energy use.
If your company either already has an extensive and exhaustive energy program in place, chances are some sort of assessment has already been done and another one may not be necessary.
By contrast, if your company has no energy policies or management practices in place, it is recommended that you start implementing basic policies to get acquainted with energy management prior to getting a professional assessment.
Productivity Alberta has developed an Energy Efficiency Assessment Program to aid small and medium enterprises in the industrial sectors in identifying energy efficiency opportunities in their business.
